In
his childhood Kurt was impressed by the books about
coralls and sharkes of the great pioneer Hans Hass.
After first adventurous dives with self built dive
equipment in the Zurich Lake, he started his first
dive travel to the red Sea. Kurts father, a photographer,
was surely responsible for his later successes. With
a solid photographer apprenticeship and the obsession
to documente the underwaterworld in his sea-bag, he
started his first journeys. At the start of his career
Kurt used only 6x6 cameras of Rolleimaarin, Haselblad
and Bronica. In the eighties he changed to a 35mm camera
of Nikon, since that time there are hardly no kind
of view-finder cameras and camera housing systems,
with those Kurt Amsler did not operate.
After
some years Kurts work was well known in the "scene" and
the international success was only a question of time.
In the meantime Kurt Amsler is
one of the most published author of reports of the underwaterworld.
The enumeration of all his publications in magazines and own book projects
is too much for this report.
High points in his career was the prize for the world- wide best underwaterphotography
book 1997 in Antibes and the film "The Maldives - Paradise Transformed" in
which Kurt Amsler worked as actor and behind the camera. The stage, where his
childhood dreams started. www.photosub.com
