Franco Banfi

Franco BanfiI was born in Switzerland in 1958 and I started diving in 1981.
Although in Switzerland where I live there is no sea, there are many lakes and rivers.
In one of this lake I learn how to dive and one year later I was immersed on the Maldives shooting my first rools.

After this first approach to the photography I increased my equipement: with a macro and a wideangle lenses. With these equipement I started shooting in the freshwater near home, expecialy in the river where the water is more clear and transparent. Although the rivers aren't colorful as many tropical seas, in these waters I learned to compose the picture looking more at the form, shadow, reflections and light.

After a while I started to enter photographics competition where in some years I got more then hundred prices all around the world: Europe, Japan, America and New Zealand. In 1992 I was called to partecipate at the World Champion in Cuba where I get the first price World Champion in underwater photography. After this I started to work with magazines and publications. In 1996 I did a book about Papua New Guinea edited from White Star Vercelli.

I like almost every kind of pictures, from macro to wideangle, but my favorite shoots are wideangle. Water behavior alone or with a model and animals.
In my pictures I tryed to recreate the same emotion I get when I did the shoot, or to create the emotion shooting on my way. To do this I look very well at every thing, shape, color, composition and of course the most important thing the light.     www.banfi.ch
